Westmoreland State Park lies within Westmoreland County, Virginia. The park extends about one and a half miles along the Potomac River and covers 1,321 acres. The Horsehead Cliffs provide visitors with a panoramic view of the Potomac River, and lower levels feature fossils and beach access. The park offers hiking, camping, cabins, fishing, boating and swimming, although mechanical issues in 2021 kept the swimming facility closed. Located on the Northern Neck Peninsula, the park is close to historical sites featuring earlier eras: George Washington's birthplace and Stratford Hall, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee.Make Westmoreland State Park part of your personalized Colonial Beach itinerary using our Colonial Beach route builder tool.

Outstanding park with a great trail to the shark tooth beach. Saw some fox pups very near the visitor center.

Hard to get information about the camper cabin I reserved. Cabin 27 is a rustic cabin without any climate control, it has a lock with a key. It is a single room but can be divided into two areas...

Nice park, lots to do, tons of trails and stunning views. They have cabins and camping grounds, several picnic areas, a pool with a slide and diving board. I visited this park in February 2019 and they were working on the bathrooms by the pool but I do not know if it was a complete renovation or just minimal. I would definitely visit this park again during Summer time so I can enjoy all the park has to offer.

A very nice state park located on the Northern Neck of Virginia. It sits right next to the Lee Family home of Stratford Hall. It is pretty old and healthy forest, which is exceedingly rare these days, especially so close to DC, which is about an hour and change north (without traffic). The goal of my trip was to visit Fossil Beach, aptly named, and the cliffs that surround it were quite nice. $7 for cars on weekdays, $10 weekends, worth a visit, cheers.
