While many cyclists lament the paving of Cottonwood Pass, as do I, it hasn't diminished the views. A fabulous tour on bike or in car between Buena Vista and Crested Butte in summertime. Not to be...

Beautiful location with lots of ways to enjoy the breathtaking views. We crossed the road from the parking area. Hiked on the north side, following the Colorado Trail / Continental Divide Trail along the ridge for a ways. Not super strenuous, but still lovely views of the peaks for us as flatlanders.

The state of Colorado has done a really amazing job rerouting and updating Cottonwood Pass! There are tons of roadside camping spots, a couple campgrounds that you probably need reservations for, and a handful of hikes leading out from the summit. It's a beautiful drive connecting BV to the Created Butte area. I highly recommend simply chilling out at the summit and enjoying a sunset on a clear night.
