The Arboretum was created in 1981 when the city of Concord purchased 16 acres of land from the Markham and Backstrom families. The vision was to create a beautiful arboretum and public park where people could learn about trees and plants that grow in Concord's marine-influenced, Mediterranean climate.Markham Nature Park and Arboretum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , online itinerary creator Edition.
The International Garden is one of the Park's unique features. It is divided into sections that represent regions of the world that share Concord's temperate climatic conditions--hot days in summer with fog-cooled nights--and no summer rain. The sections are divided into a Maple Grove, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Asia, The Mediterranean, South America, California and the Southwest, and North America.
The Garden Center and Nursery is the heart of our organization. We propagate and grow many of the plants needed for the Nature Park and Arboretum. We also hold public plant sales to raise funds to develop the park.
The Nature Park is (adjacent to the arboretum) is a place where school children from Concord come to learn about native trees and plants, as well as the beneficial insects and other critters that make the park their home.
The Community Garden is divided into many individual plots and provides a place for people to grow a vegetable garden for personal use. At all seasons of the year, people are involved in preparing, planting, or harvesting what they have grown.

We enjoyed our time here and would definitely go back to have a picnic and to relax. Only thing I don't like was that there wasn't bathrooms, only port-a-potties. more »

This is such a tranquil place. Lots of trees and nice trails. There are many different species of plants to photograph and enjoy.

Beautiful, lots of space with shade, great place for a picnic date. Not too crowded. Will go there again. Not sure if they have toilet facilities or not. All we saw were some padlocked portapotties, but we didn't check the whole park.
