Take a trip back in time at The Farmers' Museum, a living history museum providing insight into the lifestyle of 19th-century farmers. Take time to explore the outdoor exhibits of about 50 restored buildings, including a tavern, pharmacy, blacksmith's shop, doctor's office, general store, and printer's shop. The museum also contains a full-sized carousel, noted for its handcrafted panels and large-scale mural representing the history, culture, and natural resources of the state of New York. Situated on land once owned by celebrated author James Fenimore Cooper, the open-air museum contains several Colonial Revival-style buildings designed by architect Frank Whiting and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You'll have a chance to visit three gift shops and two cafes on the museum grounds. • I enjoyed my visit to the Farmers Museum. Very nice buildings and an interesting story behind it. The farm animals and carousel would make it a great place for young kids.

  • Something for just about anyone.... if you like history, its great. If you like hands on crafts, its great. If you like animals, its great. Great place to take a bunch of people.... everyone will enjoy it for something.
  • Went to Cooperstown for work meetings all week. Decided to go to the Farmers Museum to support the local museum. The staff there was very nice and took the time to explain details about the way of life of years ago. I really enjoyed the explanation of the way they used to make garments and the blacksmith took time to explain about making the tools and other things they used to hand forge.
