Admire the wide array of gardens and flora on the grounds of a former pioneer estate at Shore Acres State Park, nestled along the forested edge of the Pacific Ocean. Visit the park and wander its 2 hectares (5 acres) of landscaped gardens, replete with both local and exotic plants and crisscrossed by numerous footpaths. Make your way to the Japanese-inspired lily pond area and pause for a peaceful moment of reflection. Head for the nearby sandstone cliffs to take in a sweeping view over the sea, complete with waves crashing powerfully against the rock below. Keep your eyes open and you may even spot the spout of a migratory gray whale. Arrange to visit Shore Acres State Park and other attractions in Coos Bay using our Coos Bay online travel planner.

  • This was an incredible find tucked away along the coast in Charleston. The grounds, history and gift shop are top notch. The scenery is incredible.

  • Beautiful view. The botanical gatden is awesome. The flowers were in bloom the first time we went. Took my brother and his family the second time and my son and his family the third time. Can never get tired of the place. If you hike down the beach it is worth it. Oh by the way, buy the taffy... it is the best I've had here in the mainland. Hawaii is still number one for me.
  • A very nice state park. I was there on a calm wave day but the views were still tremendous. The sandstone and unique geology of the this area is on full display here. Some good came out of the 1929 economic crash which forced the sale of this property to the state as this place is too special for a private residence. Numerous hiking trails leave the park from the north and south connecting with the Oregon Coast Trail. All of my hikes revealed great vistas. Once you tire of the view from above, there is a trail to Simpson beach from the back of the gardens. It is a sandy pocket beach on the south edge of the park which offers some more great views.
