#1 of 16 in Things to do in Coos Bay
Must see · State Park · Nature / Park
Admire the wide array of gardens and flora on the grounds of a former pioneer estate at Shore Acres State Park, nestled along the forested edge of the Pacific Ocean. Visit the park and wander its 2 hectares (5 acres) of landscaped gardens, replete with both local and exotic plants and crisscrossed by numerous footpaths. Make your way to the Japanese-inspired lily pond area and pause for a peaceful moment of reflection. Head for the nearby sandstone cliffs to take in a sweeping view over the sea, complete with waves crashing powerfully against the rock below. Keep your eyes open and you may even spot the spout of a migratory gray whale. Arrange to visit Shore Acres State Park and other attractions in Coos Bay using our Coos Bay online travel planner.

  • We drove from Bandon to visit Shore Acres State Park. Came around 12:30 on Sunday, 7/25 and the weather was a little foggy and gloomy. You will need to pay $5 for Day Use for the Shore Acres State.....  more »
  • A wonderful experience. Gardens are lovely and the setting is beautiful. Has a nice gift shop also. Easy drive from Coos Bay  more »
  • Fantastic place relaxing while taking in some beautiful sights. The botanical gardens are well maintained with a wide variety of flowers (especially roses). There is also a seaside cliff that has a great view of the ocean, and there is a secluded cove that is well worth the short hike.
  • Best for senior citizens not looking for adventure. $5 entrance fee gets you easy access to look at rocks and ocean, a tiny botanical garden, a gift shop, and a bathroom. Up the road, the ocean is free and there are sea lions and seals. I was told this place is stunning when large waves hit the massive rocks, but we didn't have waves on our trip.
