Tour with us to find the Outer Banks Wild Spanish Colonial Mustang Horses and discover some of the most unique sights OBX has to offer. Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guides take you onto pristine northern beaches that are accessible only with a 4x4 off-road vehicle.

Wild Horse Adventure Tours (W.H.A.T.) has been voted the #1 tour company in the USA and #1 "thing to do" in the Outer Banks by TripAdvisor.

New for 2014, Wild Horse Adventure Tours is proud to offer Humvee Adventure Tours! Feel the ocean breeze and taste the salty beach air as you cruise the Outer Banks beaches in our exclusive OPEN AIR, 13-passenger Humvees with one of our seasoned guides in search of the Colonial Spanish Mustangs! With the added capabilities of our custom designed open air Hummer H1s, we venture into three previously inaccessible and distinct ecosystems teeming with wildlife of all types! New exclusive rights to the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Swan Beach allow us to view the horses in their natural environment.

With more terrain, no two tours are ever the same; so if you like history, ecology, adventure, and quick-witted comedy, we have you covered.

Our Hummer H1 vehicles have been customized with your safety in mind. All designs have been over-engineered to build the safest and most comfortable ride possible.

The roll cage is built into the frame of the vehicle for ultimate protection.

Seats have seatbelts and restraint systems for child seats.

All seats are actual car seats -no boat-style bench seats or plastic bucket seats are used in our vehicles.

An additional upper windshield with a top made with a combination of fine mesh and clear plastic enables occupants a 360-degree view while also providing protection from UV rays and unexpected inclement weather.

After customization, the Humvee is capable of seating 13 passengers with more leg room than any standard SUV. Individual seats that are 21 inches wide (no bench seats), in a stadium seating configuration, offer ultimate comfort and visibility for all.

Federal Protection of Horses:

"On January 3, 2013, H.R. 126 was first introduced to Congress by NC Congressman Walter B. Jones. It failed to pass the senate that session. In June of 2013, it passed the House vote again (unanimously), and it now needs to pass the U.S. Senate to become law. Our hopes remain high.

H.R. 126 is critical to the long-term survival of the Corolla wild horses, and it requires no additional funding from the federal government. YOU CAN HELP! Please contact your federal Representatives and tell them that you support H.R. 126 and want them to do so as well."

  • Best tour we have been on. The ride was comfortable, the bounces thrilling. This tour got our business due to the fact we could bring our smaller children (with car seats). We packed snacks, because it is a 2-hour tour and even I begin to get hungry around lunch time. Half of our party had been on a wild horse tour the year prior. They went with a pickup truck tour (and never will again). This tour in a Hummer one was far and beyond more comfortable and easier to view horses. Wiley was a great guide, I wish him the best in his retirement.
  • Wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was an enjoyable time. I thought we would be driving in dunes or on trails in woods looking for horses. Turns out they hang out near the houses too. So you’re driving through neighborhoods and all of a sudden, boom! there are some wild horses! Fun riding on the shoreline too. We ended up seeing 6 horses. I was surprised we saw that many considering the vast area that they roam and the limited number of horses there are.
