USS LEXINGTON, Corpus Christi

Known as the Blue Ghost, USS LEXINGTON saw service in the Pacific throughout World War II. The ship's name recalls a much earlier war, the Revolutionary War and the Battle of Lexington. The ship was decommissioned in 1991 and opened as a museum. Much of the original ship has been restored using salvaged materials from other ships. It received National Historic Landmark status in 2003 and is permanently docked and open for viewing. Check out interactive displays, such as the MEGAtheater, similar to an IMAX, that is installed in forward aircraft elevator space. • This was such an awesome experience. Great that Corpus Christi has this for people to visit and learn about. It was hot inside there on a summer day but very neat exhibits and items to see. I enjoyed speaking with the man on the bridge who explained what everything was. Water was $3.75 in their cafeteria! :(
  • Beautiful place to visit to experience how our navy people love on the ship. The upper deck life-sizes dummies of actual fighting jets and helicopters. This place involves steep and slim stairs (as you would imagine on a warship) and just 1 elevator with access to just 2 floors. The food area serves good food options (burgers and fries and ice creams). Please do not miss the 25minute 3D movie. It is very informative.
  • This ship was super interesting. I have gone to air force bases to walk around on tours but this ship had it all. Really get to experience the ship for yourself, able to wonder around and see all the different floors and rooms. Loved that they had parts of planes to sit in and take pictures. The video that hey show about how the ships work and how the crews work together to ensure everything runs smoothly was very interesting.
  • Wear comfortable shoes as the tours require climbing steep metal ladders and navigating bulkhead doors. The model room was amazing. I recommend walking the top deck first thing before the sun heats it up. Don’t forget to sit in the cannon turrets! Easy 2 days to see it all. Bargain at $16
  • Very big ship. Inside the ship is very hot unless on the main level and restrooms. The flight deck is very so st and a natural air conditioning. HOLD YOUR HAT'S! People that has a problem walking a lot may not be able to walk the very steep stairs up and down. Souvenir shop and a place to eat. Kind of expensive. Story tellers and a movie is included. There is a program where you can spend the night on the ship!
