USS Lexington Museum on the Bay, Corpus Christi

Known as the Blue Ghost, USS Lexington Museum on the Bay saw service in the Pacific throughout World War II. The ship's name recalls a much earlier war, the Revolutionary War and the Battle of Lexington. The ship was decommissioned in 1991 and opened as a museum. Much of the original ship has been restored using salvaged materials from other ships. It received National Historic Landmark status in 2003 and is permanently docked and open for viewing. Check out interactive displays, such as the MEGAtheater, similar to an IMAX, that is installed in forward aircraft elevator space. • The blue ghost exhibits are always changing. Stop by the visitor center to get discount coupon, the food there is good.  more »
  • Wonderful tour to show how ships are and how much sacrifice is made by sailors of comfort ! My 6 year old got bored quickly but for older kids it was awesome  more »

  • The museum itself was awesome. The self guided tours were easy to follow. My three year old enjoyed it as well. The theater on the boat was awesome. I only got to see half the movie, it was 20 minutes long I think, as I had use the bathroom. FYI: there is no re-entering so waiting for the next show is the only option.
  • We toured this for spring break this year and it was remarkable. Having never been on a carrier, it really is fascinating. We opted for the self guided tour and that was a good idea. It was myself and my two teenage kids. I believe a guided tour would be far more informative, but would be much longer. Since we were self guided, we could spend more time on what we found more interesting and move on from things that didn’t quite grab us. It can be challenging to navigate for smaller children, or folks with mobility challenges since it is a carrier with tight quarters etc. We started with the movie and then followed the colored tour directions. The gift shop was decently priced for a tourist place which was a nice surprise. We can definitely recommend this attraction if you’re in the Corpus area. An amazing piece of America’s military history and technology!
