Cumberland Mountain State Park is a state park in Cumberland County, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The park consists of 1,720 acres (7.0 km2) situated around Byrd Lake, a man-made lake created by the impoundment of Byrd Creek in the 1930s. The park is set amidst an environmental microcosm of the Cumberland Plateau and provides numerous recreational activities, including an 18-hole Bear Trace golf course.

Cumberland Mountain State Park began as part of the greater Cumberland Homesteads Project, a New Deal-era initiative by the Resettlement Administration that helped relocate poverty-stricken families on the Cumberland Plateau to small farms centered on what is now the Cumberland Homestead community. The families of Homestead built the park with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration.

The park was deeded to the state of Tennessee in 1938. Alvin C. York served as the park's superintendent until 1940, when he resigned to advise on the filming of Sergeant York.

  • Campsites have water and electric, no sewer but sites are large, shaded, well spaced and well maintained. We stayed in a 40 ft class A with our two dogs. Trails were awesome to explore, many...

  • This is actually my second visit to the park. I really like this place because it's very serene and just so beautiful in nature and the best part is the viaduct bridge between the lake and waterfall. I was alone but this is a place best shared with the company of others. The Harvest restaurant is really a great place to dine especially with the view of the lake. Great place for camping as well. People also swim here as well. There's a visitor center when you drive in to provide information.
  • A lovely campsite. Everything is easy to find and depending on the campsite it's easy to walk to most of the main attractions and the camp store. The aviary is also a plus. There are plenty of great areas for pictures and firewood is very reasonably priced if you accidentally didn't bring enough. There were also plenty of fallen trees and branches to keep a fire going. The bathrooms were about what you'd expect from a state park, but not nearly as bad as a lot of the ones I've been to. It's not so much dirty as just old. It would be nice if more funds were allocated to update the bathrooms at state parks. My only complaint is that the restaurant buffet is really not phenomenal. For roughly the same price as golden corral the options are much more limited and not quite as good. The staff on the other hand is cheerful and helpful and no fault could be found in them.
