The preserve follows 20 miles (30 km) of coastline along the Gulf of Mexico from Crystal River though Ozello to Homosassa. The Crystal River Archaeological State Park is located within the park boundary and managed by the Crystal River Preserve State Park.
The primary recreational opportunities at the Preserve are hiking, biking, birding, kayaking, fishing and nature observation. Crystal River, world renowned for providing refuge to wintering manatees is located 3 miles southeast of the main park entrance.

First, I recommend taking the tour. It's loaded with much old Florida history and fantastic sights. The Visitor Center is also a good place to visit for take home pamphlets. more »
Such a beautiful place! If you want to see real untouched Florida nature, go on the Crystal Cove Trail! It is beautiful! We ran into quite a few critters. It was also very pleasant, quiet, and peaceful. We did not do the boat tour, but we definitely plan on returning to do the tour and walk the rest of the trails. 😁
The park is clean. The signs are easy to follow. Highly recommend bringing on the bug spray. Went to the mullet hole. There is a parking area there and trail starts there as well. Half way down the trail, we turned back because bugs were overwhelming, even with big spray, and we had kids in the group. Drove further down on main street and found dock with a few bench tables. Had a picnik. Very nice water way to watch boats.
