  • If you want to try a unique hike, this is it. As the info states, its 3118 feet long. That didnt sound long to me until I walked it with co-workers. You definitely need a cell phone light at minimum.

  • Such a incredible bit of history close to the city of Cumberland, Maryland. Definitely make time to walk the entire length of the tunnel and back, but be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp...

  • Fun family activity. My recommendation is to park in the lot designated for the tunnel and not go to the area up the mountain where you can hike down. If you park in the lot by the canal, it is an easy walk to the tunnel. As a family, we choose to walk through without any light assistance so the kids could experience the total darkness. They loved it! On the way back some other groups had flashlights and were shining them directly in our faces, so just to be aware of that if you do take a flashlight and come upon others. It is out of the way, and a neat experience that we are all going to remember for a long time.
  • Great trail! Very flat so good for biking, not as much for hiking more of a walk. The tunnel is really neat but super dark in the middle. Bit spooky if alone. Dog friendly!
