Hop aboard a coach led by a steam-engine locomotive from 1916, and travel back in time and through the Allegheny Mountains along Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Opt for a three-and-a-half hour scenic tour to learn about the area's history and culture. The stopover in Frostburg leaves time for dining and walking around downtown, and your train ticket also gets you free admission into the Thrasher Carriage Museum. Train buffs will want to watch the crew turn the train's engine on a turntable during the stopover. For a more interactive journey, take a murder-mystery excursion during which you try to solve a crime aboard your train. Be aware: the walk from the train station to Main Street in Frostburg requires a steep climb, either by sidewalk or via 88 steps. Fun way to blow a few hours or an intro to scenic train ride.. A few words of wisdom: take your own food (rest town and tourist destination does not have decent food options); their is a cafe car on the train which has light refreshments - soda, water, chips, cookies; open car is not terribly loud
