  • The views through the Black Hills are breathtaking. Take your time to enjoy the nature. We haven't seen many bison or goats but plenty of pastured cows.  more »

  • A great place to visit with family or explore on your own. Everything well marked. Go during fall months for less crowds. Crazy horse is easily seen from the road before going in and they charge to go in. Unless you want the light show on the rocks at night it's a lot of time used. It's unfinished and won't be in our lifetime but maybe the youngsters will see it someday. The rest of the part should all be seen and do the drives, they are interesting and beautiful and the wildlife can be fun!
  • I actually rated this higher than Yellowstone not because it's outright more scenic or more beautiful but because its beauty is more than I expected and the roads were lovely to ride on and far less crowded than Yellowstone. You can see why riders come from all over the country/world to experience this area. If Yellowstone is like visiting a living museum then the Black Hills are like that really fun camping trip that you take with your friends. Highly recommended if you're on a bicycle or motorcycle. Plenty of local mom-and-pop eateries that are very good to fantastic as well.
  • Good job forest... way to grow some trees. You've outdone yourself. 5 stars. In all reality, I grew up here and I'm a little biased but the beauty and hidden gems in the black hills are second to none. If you are a tourist, don't be a jerk. Let the locals pass you before you stop in the middle of the highway to stare at the wildlife. If you're a local, give the tourists a break. They probably just finished driving through Colorado and they don't know any better.
  • We drove down 14A from Deadwood and did the loop following Spearfish Creak to Spearfish. The views where awesome. Got out a few places and hiked. Took Annie Creek Rd which you need a Jeep or off road vehicle for. That was really neat. Also went up to Roughlock Falls at it was beautiful. Stopped just outside of Spearfish to view the Bridal Vail Falls. If you have the chance this is a wonderful drive through the Black Hills. I have fell in love with South Dakota ❤️
  • Can you say WOW?! So much to do without really going anywhere! The nature hikes are beyond gorgeous, the small towns and the people that live in them through out this Black Hills are just perfect. An amazing place to live or play. You can always find something to keep you busy, and you don't really need much money to do any of it. Keep your eyes peeled for wild life.. it's all around you!
