Strike it rich at Consolidated Gold Mine, offering underground mine tours and gold panning lessons. Located near the "Gold City" of Dahlonega, this mine played an important role in the "Georgia Gold Rush" of the 19th century. Although the large-scale mining operations folded decades ago, a section of the mine's richest shaft, known as the "Glory Hole," remains open for tourists curious about the traditional methods of panning for gold. The underground tour displays the original cart rails, electrical lines, and an operational pneumatic drill recovered from the mine's deeper levels. This tour descends about 60 m (200 ft) below ground, so wear appropriate closed-toe shoes for your visit. Unexpectedly awesome!! We had a blast! Loved the tour, we learned so much from our guide. He was young but very well prepared. Loved the mines, it was a first for us but it was super fun, we even got to see a bat, a frog, a salamander and a little snake! We loved gold pinning and looking for gems, it was very fun! We found some pretty cool stones! We went there this past weekend for the last tour at 4pm. It was not crowded at all considering it was the Thanksgiving weekend, maybe because we got there for the last tour. We were a group of 7 and they were so kind to wait for us before closing so we could enjoy the whole experience and take all the pictures and videos we wanted. We really appreciated that! Very polite stuff. 100% recommended!

We loved visiting the gold mine! My husband and I are mid-30s and in-laws in their late 60s. The tour was educational and the guide was funny. After the tour, they teach you to pan for gold and you’re able to try for yourself! Our guide helped me with my technique and later helped me look for gems. You’re able to buy a bucket and search for gemstones. We actually found emeralds, rubies, and sapphires! All the staff members were nice and welcoming. I recommend wearing shoes that you can get a little muddy. It was just a little wet down in the mine. Our guide Rusty was great. Miner Mike in the gift shop was great! He can turn your gems into jewelry (and the nicest man.) Highly recommend for any age
