Winspear Opera House, Dallas

4.6
#3 of 46 in Nightlife in Dallas
The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House is a 21st century reinterpretation of the traditional “horseshoe” shaped opera house, engineered specifically for performance of opera and musical theatre, with stages equipped for performance of ballet and other types of dance. The Winspear Opera House is designed by Foster + Partners under Pritzker prize-winning architect Norman Foster and Deputy Chairman Spencer de Grey.

“Quite justifiably, it has come to be recognized as America’s finest opera house.”

- John Allison, Opera Magazine

The entrance to the Winspear Opera House features the Annette and Harold Simmons Signature Glass Facade, which ascends 60 feet creating a seamless visual appearance between the vibrant red glass panels of the McDermott Performance Hall and the surrounding Sammons Park. Radiating from the Winspear Opera House on all sides, the Sky Canopy provides shade to the Simmons Glass Facade over three acres of Sammons Park, defining new outdoor spaces for visitors to gather.

  • This is not "The Grand Old Opera" from Hee-Haw. Dallas Opera is the real deal and Grand Opera at its best. I went to see "The Flying Dutchman" and it was spectacular. I did not realize that I may be a...  more »
  • We sat in the front row of the mezzanine, and our view was great. The acoustics were excellent. I was a tad disappointed in the orchestra. It's not up to the standards of the Dallas symphony, or the F...  more »

  • I attended a comedy event at this beautiful venue recently. It was very crowded to park and get inside but the staff was accessible and friendly, helping people along the way. The sound and lighting during the show was really nice, and the seating was okay... opera houses aren't known for their legroom. :) My biggest disappointment was the bar service. They were not very friendly and were rushing people too much. I understand everyone needs service before the show starts but we would still like *good* service. They ran out of syrup for the cola so my soda tasted mostly like water. When I told the bartender, he said, "All the valves are connected so they must all be out." and then looked past me to serve the next person. When I told him I didn't want the drink, he seemed really annoyed. I understand that may have been an experience out of the ordinary for that staff, but it really put a damper on my happy mood that night.
  • My son and I and his beautiful wife attended today the live musical at the AT&T Winspear Opera House. It was amazing it was called "Bright Star", and everyone should see this before it leaves our city, you're really missing out if you do not. Parking was excellent the stuff fantastic and the building is so amazing, an architectural Delight for sure. It is always a pleasure to attend any function here, my son treated me to a beautiful afternoon, starting with a delicious lunch at a Turkish restaurant by an amazing owner and Chef, that used to have a five star restaurant in London the Ephesus in North Dallas, everyone needs to go and taste The Culinary Delights. Then onto this Live musical to finish the day and in honor of my late husband Frank, my son's Dad who is in heaven for some years now. And we always in honor to him on Father's Day we celebrate Frank in many ways, this was a very good day indeed, rest in peace Frank in heaven. Fond memories and love on forever and Beyond.
