  • Wonderful this crater (and his brothers). A place not to lose. It's worth going up and down, even if it's tiring.

  • I really enjoyed walking the easy 1.5 mile loop around the Ubehebe Crater. Had I not been recovering from a foot injury I would have done the stroll around Little Hebe and possibly walked down to the ...  more »

  • This place is amazing. It’s like the Meteor Crater of California (other then it was from a volcanic steam explosion, not a meteor, but you get what I’m saying) if I’m not mistaken it’s around 1/2 miles across and 800ft deep. The view from both on top, and the bottom are incredible and very surreal. WARNING: if you are not in physically good shape, young or old, do NOT go to the bottom. It is a 800ft elevation change in 1/4 miles. That means for every foot down, you’re only going about 1 1/2ft forwards. Going down isn’t to hard as it’s all thick gravel and it’s hard to lose your footing but the gravel makes it much harder getting back up. A fair comparison to climbing back to the top is taking the stairs to the top of a 80 story building, it’s not easy. The view and scenery from the bottom is definitely worth the climb back up, but if you are not in good physical shape; beware, you may not make it back up. BRING WATER
  • To stand on its rim, with the wind blowing you backwards and look into this hole, is amazing. To look around and see all the volcanic ash from its muted eruption. The size is what gets your attention
