Keystone State Park, Derry

#98 of 146 in Nature in Pennsylvania
State Park · Park
Keystone State Park boasts a 78-acre man-made lake and a 100 year old Stone Lodge, compliments of the Keystone Coal and Coke Company that mined here years ago. The park was opened to the public in 1945, although its recreational use started years before. Located in Derry Township, this 1,200-acre park offers a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities year round. Visitors enjoy the picnic areas of the park, pavilions, campgrounds, cottages, yurts, and modern cabins. Keystone Lake is ideal for swimming, boating (electric motor or non-powered boats), and fishing. Many hikers enjoy the beauty of the lake as they stroll along Lakeside Trail. Nature programs, as well as historical “Coal Mining Times” programs, are available year round. Stop in the James A. Kell Visitor Center for a tour of the Old Stone Lodge and to learn about upcoming programs and events. One way to explore the park is to hit the trails, for scenic and sometimes challenging hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Biking (on park roads and Lakeside Trail), hunting, ice fishing, sledding, and wildlife watching are some other activities you can enjoy at Keystone State Park.

  • Nice camp grounds that accommodate anyone from a large camper to just a simple tent, separate grounds for dog loved. There are pavilions and handicap fishing areas along with a nice beach that has showers and a concession stand. I have been going here since I was a child, and I can share it with my children, a great place to spend a few nights or a day trip.
  • Free Swimming all summer. Family friendly. Clean. Good place to go fishing or camp. Offers a concession stand with Great ice cream. Nice playground. Movies in the park. One of my favorite local summer places.
