Cabot's Pueblo Museum features over 100 years of history as told through the life of Cabot Yerxa. The Pueblo building houses artifacts from his life including his birth in the Dakota Territory and journey to Alaska, Cuba, WWI, France and, finally, homesteading in Desert Hot Springs, CA in 1913.

In 1914, Cabot Yerxa rediscovered the hot and cold water aquifers while homesteading, which would lead to the spa city of Desert Hot Springs.

From 1941-1949, he built the Pueblo using reclaimed, found and hand-made materials including telegraph poles, railroad ties and adobe bricks. He also found materials from abandoned homesteads.

The grounds of the Museum and Water Gallery are free. The paid tour is approximately 50-55 minutes.

  • We decided to visit this place on a whim. Looking to kill a little time before checking in at the hotel. We are so glad we did. This is a fascinating place built by an even more fascinating man. I highly recommend spending an hour here to take the guided tour.
  • Loved the tour, so informative. Mike was great and kept it very interesting. Wonderful little gem in our desert. You really get a feel for how Cabot lived and loved. And him and his family's travels were fascinating. Looking forward to going back.
