Mueller State Park, Divide

4.7
#50 of 251 in Nature in Colorado
A popular Watchable Wildlife Area, Mueller is home to elk, black bear, hawks, and mule deer. Park visitors traverse the park’s numerous trails on foot, snowshoes, cross-country skis, horseback and mountain bike, depending on the season. A popular winter destination for snow shoeing.

Mueller also has two options to stay overnight. There are 132 campsites in the park; 17 of these are open for winter camping . The park also has three cabins for rent year-round.

Mueller State Park welcomes pets in campgrounds, picnicking, two sledding areas and along the park’s roads, but not on the hiking trails or in the backcountry. Mueller is a Watchable Wildlife Area. Keeping pets off of the trails increases the chances of visitors seeing the numerous species of wildlife in the park. Pets must be on a leash at all times unless they are in their tent, RV or personal vehicle.

  • With a 4 year old and 18 month old we hiked grouse mountain, wapiti nature trail, and lost pond trails. The hikes were perfect for the kids and beautiful. The dragonfly kids nature trail area was perf...  more »
  • This is a beautiful park. We stayed in Peakview loop and sites were large, shady and well maintained. Beautiful views, cool temps, but still within 30 mins of Colo Springs. Some evenings we found ours...  more »

  • Visit ed once a year for the past four years and always enjoy it. We stay at the walk in tent sites which are well away from campers and each other, giving a nice peaceful camping experience. Be prepared to carry your stuff for a 300 yards or more to the far sites, but the quiet barriers is well worth it. Over 40 miles of beautiful, easy trails, a playground for the kids and lots of ranger guided activities. Recommended for any one, especially families.
  • Love this park! Beautiful views, wonderful hiking trails. Lots of rules that make it one of the best cared for, very clean, safe, beautiful State Parks. Family friendly, horse friendly (amazing horse facility), and dog friendly even though dogs are not allowed on hiking trails. Due to popular demand they did a one year trial with one hiking trail open to dogs. Dog owners failed to clean up after their pets so all trails are again no dogs allowed. Rangers are friendly, helpful, and present throughout the park. A variety of camp sites some with electricity, some spacious and private, many close together, all with lots of trees and vegetation. This park stays full, very busy popular State Park in a beautiful part of Colorado. Lots of day use picnic areas close to some of the trails. Many options for day trips. This park offers fun, historical, and educational Ranger/volunteer led programs and group hikes. Visitor center is great. This is bear country-we did not see one but enjoyed seeing deer, turkey, elk, and many types of birds. Nice bath/shower houses, laundry, playground, with cell phone service in some areas of the campground. Great place to spend one day or several.
  • Excellently maintained park with some amazing views. We have camped at Mueller State Park at least once a year for the last 4 years and visited many other times. The amenities and activities are great and include things for children and adults. We are looking forward to some more of the guided hikes like the Moonlight walk they do monthly. The last time we were there we actually have a buck walk right through our camp site while we were building our evening fire and the children loved it. And having access to showers after an enjoyable day of outdoor activity is a huge hit with the adults.
  • Beautifully wooded park. Many wide and well maintained trails. Trails vary from very easy to challenging. The are several different trail heads and all the trails are connected. Staff are very helpful. The visitor center has many interesting displays.
