The newly remodeled stone and timber 1930's beach building offers many visitor services including a seasonal restaurant serving a variety of foods, a lake observation deck, bathhouse, and restrooms. The beautiful lodge has been converted back into a restaurant which opened mid-summer. Enjoy the view of the lake and the excellent food when you come visit Lake Wapello State Park. Beach users can purchase snacks and refreshments as well as bait and tackle at the concession area of the building.

Lake Wapello's beach offers opportunities for swimming and sunbathing. Refreshments are available at the beautiful stone and timber bathhouse. Boats may be rented at the concession area. Any size of boat motors may be operated at "no wake" speeds on the lake.

Bass (catch and release only), crappies, catfish and bluegills abound in the beautiful 289-acre artificial lake. Anglers have an excellent chance to go home with a fine catch.

  • First, if you are here for fishing I can't say anything about that. I went here for hiking. I gave it a 4 stars because it only has 1 loop to walk/hike on. So the posted 6.6 mile hike around the lake turned to about 7 miles if you include the road areas. If you want to take the hike around I would highly suggest pants and waterproof shoes or ones you are okay with getting wet...i did go in spring so there's more water than other times of the year. The pants come in handy when you walk past random plants that have small spikes on them. There were a handful of times when I had to climb over fallen trees. It had a nice ascent to flat ratio. 10/10 would do again.
  • I just moved to Iowa and my friend took me here. I'm so excited to see and use this amazing park this summer 😍. I also talked to and asked questions of two DNR Employees, they were very helpful and patient with my questions.
