Durham, North Carolina, is believed to be the site of an ancient Native American village named Adshusheer. It was the site of the largest troop surrender to end the Civil War. But the glory days of the early 20th Century, when Bull Durham was recognized worldwide and it was the home of the most successful African American Community in America, have been succeeded by a vibrant community celebrating education, medicine, and high technology.See Museum of Durham History and all Durham has to offer by arranging your trip with our Durham day trip website.
Durham's Cultural Master Plan examined the need for a history museum and concluded "There are an array of programs in various historic sites and a number of walking tours. What is missing is a centrally located facility that can knit all these elements together into a coherent story of Durham's past and its relevance to the present."

Fun place to learn more about Durhams history and talk to some very knowledgable ladies and gents. Situated in what was once the bus station the museum is accessible, small but full of facts about a fascinating city and its history. Opposite the Amtrak station and steps from downtown, this was my first stop and I was glad it was. I came out a lot wiser about the Durham of old but with some knowledge of where to visit during my day trip. Fascinating place especially if you love history.

I'm grateful this museum exists. I found because I was looking for resources on the history of Durham. The staff was very friendly. I think the most helpful thing was an electronic timeliness of the city with large pictures.
