Probably one of the best spots on the river in town to visit. Not only is it steeped in history with a multitude of opportunities for learning about our area and this historical landmark in particular, but it's a beautiful park with well maintained trails. The exercise spots along the trail are easy to use and accessible, there's plenty of access to the river whether you want to relax and watch the water or do some fishing. This park is exceptional because there's a TON of diversity in the plants, trees, and flowers, and many of them are marked with their ID, so you may learn what you're looking at. There's a small butterfly garden, picnic tables, swings to sit in with a river view, natural seating, benches, tons of shade and grass. It's an exceptional asset that we are very lucky to have to experience. Highly recommend their various festivals as well, and stopping into the building itself to explore local history, which is very kid friendly and fun to view.
Awesome historical park, museum, and Fort! Must see!! This amazing little historical state park is free (although donations and merch are strongly encouraged)! The visitor center is open until 4 and has a museum, as well as souvenirs for sale. The history is incredible, and well-established and on display here. Recreations are performed here, but sadly, there weren't any in the day we visited, so that gives us a good excuse to return! And return we will. While the visitor center closes at 4, the park and grounds remain open until sunset, so you are free to roam the grounds and take pictures of the amazing historical fort recreations and nature surrounding them. The park is beautiful, historical, free, and a must-see for anyone in the area! Highly recommend a visit!
