Had a guided tour out of this shop with Mark. Fabulous. We fished a river in the park and caught fish. The only request was to catch a Colorado greenback cutthroat trout and we did. Mark was a great.... more »

Every year my family and I visit the area of the Rocky Mountains. This year we started in the Grand Lake shop, where we received wonderful customer service from the employees working on Thursday. On Saturday we visited the Estes park shop and did not have the same experience. When we entered the shop, we were greeted by the employee at the front who was a tall boy with long hair wearing a dark green jacket (John was his name I believe). The young man was the same person who served us in Grand Lake. He again helped us set up up a 'dry-dropper-rig' and told us all the 'hot' flies. After leaving we went to the areas he suggested and my children wife and I all caught fish. The reason for the 'poor' review is the way that the employees talked to and about each other. As we were being checked out, another employee came from the back of the shop and began talking about John, who had helped us for the past two days. Remarks included: 'I don't know why they hired him', 'He doesn't know what he's doing', 'He's not the smartest' ‘They’re thinking about firing him’, and so on. The surrounding customers were noticeably uncomfortable by the exchange. The young man checking me out was visibly angry but did not strike back at his coworker. I have spent many years in business, so I understand how bad for a business such poor interactions between coworkers can be for the life of a business. I do not mean to start any issues within the shop but thought this was something that the managers should be aware of.

I literally just got home from my guided fly fishing trip with Kirk and Kevin. It was amazing. The gear you get to use is top notch and they are great at helping you fish. They give you some tips and then let you try it on your own without them hovering over you. I highly recommend Kirks Fly Shop for all your fishing needs.
