Anhinga Trail, Everglades National Park

#2 of 145 in Trails in Florida
Enjoy an easy hike and observe the wildlife on Anhinga Trail, a boardwalk over Taylor Slough that is 6 km (4 mi) from the Everglades National Park entrance. Walk out 600 m (0.4 miles) over a sawgrass marsh area. From the boardwalk, visitors can often see many different Everglades species, from local birds to large reptiles, such as alligators. The trail is wheelchair-accessible, but cycling is not allowed. Plan my trip to Everglades National Park with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • The Anhinga Trail is a very interesting boardwalk with classic Everglades views and a lot of wildlife, a must-see. You are guaranteed to see alligators. I went in the evening and again in the morning....  more »

  • Is a beautiful stage to do if you are in Miami. A park unique in its kind. Basically you are travelling on a boat with a large propeller that runs on a river of grass, In this park there are many animals but the most seen is definitely the alligator. Get mosquito protection. Inside there is also a show with these animals ... clearly in English.

  • My ultimate favorite trail. Went in the summer but in winter there is actually a ton of life. Was a little too wet to see bathing Gators this go around. But the nice boardwalk is more than enough.
  • This place is AMAZING! It has restrooms and a nice little gift shop right by the parking lot. The trails are some sidewalk and mostly board walk allowing you to get so close to wildlife. Alligators, turtles, birds, and giant colorful grass hoppers are just the highlights! This place is perfect for families and wildlife lovers! Depending on the time/season make sure you’re equipped with bug spray. Everglades is by far my favorite National Park you could spend many days here and still have more to explore and more wildlife to see!
  • This is one of the most beautiful trails inside the Everglades National Park. It's just a few miles from the Ernest Co Entry point. You can spot a lot of crocodiles and alligators along the trail. When we went we saw a huge crocodile just chilling on the side of the road. It was really scary, but it was very lazy. In general they never attack unless provoked. It was an amazing experience. It's one of the must visit spots.
  • To access this trail, go to the Royal Palms Visitor Center, nearest city is Homestead Fl. You may need to pay the $25 entrance fee to get into Everglades National Park however this is good for 7 Days in any entrance when visiting the National Park. A lovely walk on a boardwalk, mostly not shaded so be smart with hats and water. At our time there, there were giant grasshoppers, tons of birds, alligators and turtles and fish. We only had to walk about 20 yards before there was a very large alligator chilling on the path. Well worth a stop here.
  • I love this trail and all its gators. We also walked this at nighttime like 10pm and the stars looked amazing since there is no light pollution. Absolutely stunning
