  • This is a magical place. The twisted Bristlecone pines are over 1500 years old. And, you really do have to bend down to the ground to smell the special little wildflowers that have only about 60 days to pollinate and get enough energy to come back next year to bloom. They have to withstand winds up to 100 miles an hour, snow, and a high altitude of 12000 ft above tree line. That takes fortitude and courage.
  • Super informative visitors center. I was so impressed by the example of how large the roots of tundra plants get. A 6in plant can have a root 4feet long and 5 in around. Also the garden out back a good place to find the birds. Bring binoculars so you can look for the white crowned Sparrows. Impressive display on the age of the Bristle Cone pine trees and a cool example of one inside. Also restrooms.
