In the 19th century as Americans wanted more land, settlement moved west. For countless American Indians, the American thirst for land meant a challenge to a traditional way of life. Shawnee Mission, like many others, was established as a manual training school attended by boys and girls from Shawnee, Delaware, and other Indian nations from 1839 to 1862. Had a great time at the fall festival. Such a cool site. Enjoyed all the vendors and dancing. The apple press cider was very tasty.

This is a increadably important historical site. I plan to return and learn more of the history of our nation and America's indigenous peoples that lived in, thrived in yet, only to eventually be removed from the the bountiful Ohio River Valley. History continues to repeat itself.
