The Market House is a Market house and town hall in the center of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. It was built in 1838 on the site of the old state house and Town Hall which burned down in 1831. Fayetteville was the capital of North Carolina from 1789 to 1794.

It has an arcaded open ground level, and a meeting hall above in a standard market house format which originated in the British Isles and is also common in New England. It served both as a town hall and general market until the early 20th century, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. The upper floor now houses a museum.

Because of its history as a slave market, on May 30, 2020, protestors attempted to set the building on fire with the fire quickly quenched resulting in only minor damage.

  • Love this Market House ~ Part of Fayetteville history since 1832. Unfortunately a fence had been erected around it due to villains' trying to burn it down But you can still take priceless pics.

  • Something about the downtown area reminds me of Spain. Love to explore and the coffee at Rude Awakening is amazing! Try their coffee sliders!
  • Awesome landmark, very historical. Was even the capital building for NC. Has some vad history w8th the slave trade as well but when you erase history it repeats itself. Shame everyone wants it destroyed maybe they can learn from this instead of try to burn it down
