  • I came here on a weekend day late in April, right before the summer season kicked off. We parked at Robert Moses Field 5 and walked over to the lighthouse. The weather was nice and the sky was clear (highly recommended visiting on a day like this!) The staff at the lighthouse are knowledgeable and friendly. There’s a little museum at the base you can walk around to learn about the history of the area and the building’s former uses. There’s also a newer building right next store that has some of the older lanterns/lights used at the lighthouse before the current one. To get to the top of the lighthouse you must first buy a ticket ($10/adult). It is then a 5-10 minute walk to the top along a winding staircase. Once you reach the top a staff member will let you know when it’s clear to go out onto the observation deck. The views are breathtaking! It was such a clear day, you could see the vast horizon of the Atlantic to the south, Fire Island stretching to the east, and, if you could believe it, the skyline of NYC on the horizon to the west (~50 miles, zoomed in it can be seen on my posted pictures). This is a beautiful place and a perfect spot to visit if you’re in the area or as the main attraction of a day trip!
  • 0.7 mile walk from the parking lot, on a boardwalk surrounded by tall plants and very friendly deer. I went on an extremely windy day with a little chill in the air. Was not crowded. $10 to climb. Guide was very knowledgeable. Steps were wide and felt safe. Wonderful views. Short walk to the beach. 💙
