We really enjoyed the lighthouse. It's a minimum 1-2 mile walk/hike on a narrow wooden path on a very beautiful beach-sided raised deck. A pro for us...it's worth it when you get to the historic lighthouse with 182 steps. Note you need to be 42" tall to go up to the top of the very windy, very high lighthouse so my toddler couldn't come with us 😕

Local visitor who has never stopped by to see the Fire Island Lighthouse before. Parked at Field 5 and walked over. The volunteers were very pleasant and helpful, answered all my questions. We walked to the top to enjoy the view and around the second floor to read the info about the lighthouse. Very interesting. I was able to get my National Parks Passport stamped too.
