Visit Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site to see where the famous poet and writer spent the last two decades of his life. Carl Sandburg lived his final 22 years on Connemara Farms, where he published over one-third of his works. He moved to the 12 hectare (30 acre) farm in 1945 with his wife, who raised champion dairy goats there. In addition to the home, the estate includes a goat farm, sheds, pastures, two lakes, vegetable and flower gardens, an apple orchard, and surrounding woodlands. Tour the writer's home to get a sense of how Sandburg lived and worked. Visitors can make use of 8 km (5 mi) of hiking trails that explore the farmland. You may be able to catch a live performance of Sandburg's "Rootabaga Stories," or a part of his Broadway play, "The World of Carl Sandburg." • Lovely place for a day trip! Very interesting and educational. The property is just gorgeous, and the goats were delightful. We were able to see two that were just born! They were so cute in their little sweaters! We also picked up some lotion and goat milk fudge from their store. We will definitely be back for a full visit.
  • It's a beautiful place to hike and just wander around with the goats. The volunteers and workers are very helpful and friendly, too. We had a great time. Everything is free, unless you'd like go tour the home. Then it's just a small fee that goes towards the upkeep. There's also a lake with a hiking path around it. Nice clean facilities and even a water fountain with a water bottle refill option.
