Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site
Visit Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site to see where the famous poet and writer spent the last two decades of his life. Carl Sandburg lived his final 22 years on Connemara Farms, where he published over one-third of his works. He moved to the 12 hectare (30 acre) farm in 1945 with his wife, who raised champion dairy goats there. In addition to the home, the estate includes a goat farm, sheds, pastures, two lakes, vegetable and flower gardens, an apple orchard, and surrounding woodlands. Tour the writer's home to get a sense of how Sandburg lived and worked. Visitors can make use of 8 km (5 mi) of hiking trails that explore the farmland. You may be able to catch a live performance of Sandburg's "Rootabaga Stories," or a part of his Broadway play, "The World of Carl Sandburg." A nice stop to get a glimpse of history and some hiking. You can visit for free and walk the grounds during their open hours. If you would like to see the house you can pay a small fee for a tour. There is plenty to do and see without going in the house however. They have several out building and barns as well as a goat farm where you can pet the goats. There are also several miles of trails to explore and enjoy.

Loved the tour, the house is fascinating! Even if I didn't know much about Sandburg it was worth the trip. Totally affordable and the best part might have been the fact you could pet the goats. Loved our tour guide and the team of volunteers could not have been more helpful and friendly!
