In the years before baseball, Cooperstown was home to farmers and craftsmen making a living from the area's rocky soil, hilly terrain and cold climate. Water powered mills lined the creeks and streams, providing everything from pitchforks to cider to oil pressed from local seeds. Just north of Fly Creek, a shop making wooden pails lent the name "Pail Shop Corners" to the intersection of Goose Street and north valley road.

Today, Pail Shop Vineyards draws on the spirit of the area's early settlers, growing cold climate grape varietals and crafting wines that reflect the rocky soil of our hillside vineyard.

  • Sorry I didn't write my review sooner. We visited last year for the first time (somehow, we never noticed it on a previous visit to the area). Cute, small winery, on a lovely piece of property...

  • Great location with awesome vino!! Stopped in and tried their menu of the wines they had available, 8 or so I think, for a very reasonable price!! The wines, both red and white, were very good...

  • We went to Cooperstown for the day and stumbled upon this cute little place! I was pleasantly surprised with the wines and the tasting was only $6. “Portrait of a cooper” and “10,000 wooden pails” are amazing. Sangria too. If we are in the area, we will stop in again!
  • Service is warm and friendly. Surroundings are beautiful. Wine selection is limited and all the wines are objectively very sweet, even the “dry” ones. The tasting is affordable at $6 for 6 wines, but the last few wines we’re unbearably sweet (and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like super dry wines either).
