The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary (originally Folsom Zoo) is a zoo and animal sanctuary located in the city of Folsom, California, in the United States, which has been open since 1963. The facility differs from traditional zoos and is more like a sanctuary in the way the animals are acquired and the care they receive. Though the facility allows visitors like a traditional zoo, the animals are not bred, sold, or traded.
The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is supported by Friends of the Folsom Zoo, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which helps by providing both funding and volunteers.

  • Perfect size for little ones and beautiful grounds. We always have a nice time wondering around looking at the animals and staff is always so friendly.  more »
  • It's not the largest zoo, but great for a toddler. They have bears, tigers, mountain lions, wolves, and some other animals.  more »

  • Folsom City Zoo is a great place to visit. Here what to know before you go: It's small, and that's a good thing. You can get through the entire sanctuary in about an hour and see every animal. That means your kiddos can walk it comfortably. It's also fairly shaded making it a great place to visit, even on got days. It's more of a sanctuary, than a zoo. Meaning most of the animals have been rescued from bad situations, but unfortunately can't be returned to the wild. So when you visit this zoo, you're paying to give threatened animals a place to live peacefully. That being said, don't expect super exotic animals here. They have monkeys, mountain lions, tigers, and bears...oh my. (Couldn't resist, but probably should've 😉). Plus other animals native to California...oh, and wolves too! Finally, it's a great for your budget. My wife, son, baby, and I got in for $20 bucks. Yes, $20 bucks total. If nothing else, visit this place for their mission to save mistreated animals who wouldn't survive without the support of the sanctuary.
  • We come here every weekend with our now 2 year old. Obviously this is a small town Zoo, but always growing and improving. There are so many friendly employees, working hard all day to make this place what it is. The negatives I've read and discussed with others are that it is a small zoo with barely any animals. It is a small town zoo, c'mon. If you're expecting San Diego or even SF, go there instead. This is an incredible family place with more than enough to satisfy the little ones. The nearby train is great too. I'm sure our little ones will outgrow it at some point, but we are enjoying it while it lasts. The annual membership is the way to go if you're planning on going more than once. Keep up the good work!
