With whales, seals, and otters swimming offshore and a trail available for hiking, biking, jogging, and horseback riding, MacKerricher State Park provides plenty of activities. Take the stairs off the boardwalk to view nearby tide pools, and pull up at one of the many picnic tables for lunch and views of the ocean. Restrooms are only available at the beginning of the trail. MacKerricher State Park Reviews
This is a gorgeous stretch of coastline covering a pretty big area. Mackerricher is a great place to stop into briefly or to stay awhile (free for day visitors). I do wish the lake loop trail wasn't..... more »
It was very cold and windy when we were there but it is a beautiful park with great views. There is signage letting you know information about the area. more »
Been visiting these beaches and State Park since the early 80's. Love the rocky coastline...perfect for exploring tide pools. The black, heavy grained sand here is unique. Perfect for biking, hiking, horseback riding. Short walk from campground to access the beach. Very accessible boardwalk, that will take you out to the bluffs, overlooking the crashing waves. Look carefully and you will see Harbor Seals and Sea Lions while waiting for the amazing sunsets. Certain times of the year, these bluffs provide a perfect opportunity to spot the migrating whales. Short distance into Fort Bragg. Small convenience store up the road for ice & cold drinks. The park is located on California's Coastal Highway 1. Giant Redwoods are an easy day adventure. The famous Skunk Train is only minutes away. You will not be disappointed!
MacKerricher is my happy place! Been camping here for a week every July for about 5 years now and every time it is just as beautiful and peaceful. The park is very well maintained, the beach is just steps away, and the boardwalk along one edge of the park is an amazing place to see some whales and seals! The park even has a bike trail that allows you to venture into town without needing a car. It's a little tough to get a campsite here (we book in January the day the season opens and still have to fight for the spot we want sometimes) but absolutely worth it every single time.
