Lovers Key State Park, Fort Myers Beach

Lovers Key State Park is a protected coastal area that is as romantic as its name. Visit it to find bottlenose dolphins, marsh rabbits, and manatees that play in the shallow waters and marshes. Watch the skies to see an assortment of bird species, including hawks and warblers. The beach is 3 km (2 mi) of white sand, an area good for swimming. Cross over to Black Island for a kayak rental, or rent a bike to use on the paved trails that crisscross the island. • Got there by 9 a.m. and parking lot was packed by 10. I paid $4 because I was solo. Beautiful beach. Bring umbrellas and chairs and coolers. Lots of sea shells to sift through. Water was nice and almost smooth. Free tram from the lot to the beach or you can walk 1000 ft to the beach. There is a small snack bar that sells $6 burgers or $5 hot dogs, very tasty.
  • My dad and I were visiting Ft. Myers for our spring break vacation and couldn't have been happier spending our time anywhere else! We found the state park by chance when the public beaches were full of people with little to no parking. The price for entry was very inexpensive, and the people at the entrance couldn't have been kinder to us. There are so many options for things to do: hiking, swimming, fishing, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. There is an abundance of wildlife and nature to observe and enjoy. A few examples we saw there during our time there included: many birds, fish, a crab, multiple manatees, and a dolphin! The beaches are very clean with plenty of shells and soft sand. There is also a tram that takes you right to the beach if walking is a more difficult option. They even have free WiFi near the main beach area, plenty of places to sit, and a store right on the beach where you can purchase food and drinks, and where you can rent lounge chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, etc., all for a VERY reasonable price. There is so much available space for people to relax and enjoy themselves, that it wasn't crowded at all! Even on the weekend it wasn't overly crowded by any means. If I ever visit Ft. Myers again, I know exactly where I will be spending most of my time! Thank you!
