Okaloosa Island Pier, Fort Walton Beach

Pier / Boardwalk · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Famous for big fish, Okaloosa Island Pier draws fisherman and spectators alike to marvel at the fish that the Gulf of Mexico produces in this region. Large tuna, king mackerel, and cobia have been reeled in here. The pier extends more than 384 m (1,262 ft) into the ocean and serves as a great place to watch the sunset, observe those fishing, or catch glimpses of dolphins, stingrays, and sea turtles. You'll find a tackle shop on the pier, and if you forget your gear, you can rent equipment.  A beach grill is located at the end pier, and the Gulfarium next door hosts live marine mammal performances. There is a fee required to walk out onto the pier; it costs more if you would like to fish. • There is a free parking lot right next to the pier. The beach is beautiful and next to shops and restaurants. Go a bit further East for more isolated beach parks.  more »

  • This is one of our favorite stops while on vacation. You can witness some of the best sunsets ever. It's tons of fun to watch the people fishing reeling in their catch. It's also a great place to see dolphins and sea turtles. I know these drive the fishermen crazy but I personally love watching. It's very affordable to walk the pier.
  • First time ever walking out on a fishing pier and enjoyed every moment of it! For every step you take, the prettier the waters get. I was able to take pics of the sea turtles and recorded video of a dolphin chasing the bait fish. The locals were great to talk to as they fished. Once at the very end of the pier, turn around to look at the Florida coastline...simply amazing how much and far you can see.
