Hillbarn Theatre Conservatory was started in 2000, with the goal to empower performers to develop their talents and build the confidence needed to succeed in school and life, by participating in challenging classes and workshops and performing in high-quality productions in our comfortable, creative, and fun environment.Add Hillbarn Theatre to your Foster City travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Foster City trip planner.
Since then, we have built up a program that consists of our SummerStage and school-year conservatory offerings at Hillbarn as well as after-school enrichment classes, intersession day camps, and fully-produced musicals in outreach to local elementary, junior high, and high schools in Foster City, San Mateo and Hillsborough.
We are now offering classes, workshops, and show productions to performers over 18.
With our many programs, we educate and inspire over 600 performers each year.
There are many different, and wonderful, companies in the area that provide performing arts opportunities for kids who want to perform. And we are wholly supportive of any organization that brings the arts to the community! The Hillbarn Conservatory is different in a few, crucial, ways:
1. Our programs are large enough that the kids are exposed to many new friends, but small enough that we can give each child individual attention and instruction.
2. We rehearse in our performance space; the kids are acclimated immediately to where they will be performing. As a fully functioning community theater with our own space, we have access to costumes, props and scenery at all times. This is good for the kids because they can rehearse with their props and on the sets. This is good for the parents because we do not require volunteer hours from the families of our students (although we do love volunteers and welcome anyone who is interested in helping out!)
3. Our Teaching Artists are active theater professionals who understand and enjoy working with young people. All of our instructors are college-graduates who’ve obtained degrees in either a performing arts or education discipline.
4. We pull from the ranks of our students when looking to cast the roles of children and young people in our Mainstage productions.
Hillbarn Theatre reviews
We love the small intimate setting. You are right close to the actors. The productions are well done and they do many wonderful plays. We have been going for years. more »
Enjoyed Anything Goes! Great fun. The two principals were excellent—singing, acting, and dancing—and supporting cast, and set were all good! more »
Cool space. The stage is really interesting and the audience area makes it feel immersive. I've seen 2 shows here and both were pretty entertaining. The snack/drink bar has a bunch of goodies.. although a bit pricey. I guess it helps with the revenue though..
U31 is the perfect neighborhood bar.. friendly bar tenders... James is personable and professional. A great trait. And Stella... is awesome
