Marvel at the natural beauty of Flume Gorge as you enjoy a self-guided walk between its massive granite walls overgrown with mosses and ferns. Stop by the visitor center to learn more about the state park or to warm up over a cup of tea before you start the loop through this scenic chasm, first discovered in 1808. Note that the hike includes a number of stairs and some uphill trekking. You will be richly awarded with amazing views of waterfalls, caves, and growths of flowers. Flume Gorge reviews
This spot is well worth the 2 mile hike there and back. It is a climb but there are benches strategically placed where you can rest. We took our time mainly because even though entry is by... more »
Great hike into the woods. With covid they restrict numbers so make a reservation. Covered bridges, waterfalls, and mountains all set pleasant scenery for a hike. We went with a 4 y/o who did well... more »
Great introductory "hike" for families who have young kiddos. Our three kids made it through the 2.2 mile loop. It's definitely helpful to have snacks on hand, as you'll likely need to stop a few times throughout. It's also helpful to have a baby carrier for ages 2 and under, as there are many steps to climb. It's all worth it for the lovely views of the gorge and the "pool" area. We also got a picture of us with the covered bridge, which is now a family tradition that started when our first child was an infant.
Wow this is a beautiful trail! You can walk the whole trail or choose to take a shorter path (there’s also a bus available for the initial part of the trail). Flume gorge was great. Other things to see are the Liberty gorge, bear and wolf caves and the pool. It’s a good idea to get the discovery pass if you plan to go on the Cannon Mountain tramway.
