Our mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages, nurture the memories of the men and women from Michigan who served in the armed forces during America’s foreign wars, and to support current members of our nation's military. We also honor the peacetime bravery of Michigan’s space pioneers and astronauts.

Michigan's Own includes exhibits on Michigan's governors who have served in the armed forces, the Polar Bear veterans (members of the American North Russia Expeditionary Force who fought on Russian soil during WW I), veterans of WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War of 1991, and the War on Terrorism. There are special exhibits to those who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross. Michigan's Own is the home of the largest collection of Medals of Honor in the world. We also feature exhibits on Michigan's astronauts.

  • Smaller museum that highlights our Michigan heroes. Much to see here. They have laid out the exhibits in a proper manner.

  • This place is a hidden treasure! John was amazing and will spend time talking you to if you ask. He seemed to know all the stories of the service men and women in detail and is a great storyteller. He said they have about 900 displays/sorties they rotate through. It was definitely an emotional visit reading about all these amazing service people that made the ultimate sacrifice and those that were able to return to their loved ones. definitely a place you can return to over and over
  • It is a great museum that taught us more about war heroes from Michigan. The gentleman who was our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We all also enjoyed the tank and airplane out front and the scavenger hunt for our younger child. It helped keep interest throughout all the exhibits, which we visited multiple times.
