Famous for its gigantic namesake rock formation, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area spans more than 647 hectares (1,600 acres) of desert. The pink granite dome rises nearly 130 m (425 ft) and covers 260 hectares (640 acres). According to archaeological evidence, human habitation in the area goes back more than 10,000 years. Explore the park's network of trails and admire the wealth of plant and animal species. An ascent of the dome will reward you with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Tribal legends and colonial history indicate the formation holds mystical powers--hence its name. If you're feeling adventurous, spend the day rock climbing, but check in at the headquarters first for route maps and climbing rules. Had a great time hiking up the rock. It is very steep so I’d recommend wearing appropriate shoes. Several folks decided not to go all the way up, if you’re scared of heights the hike up the rock is not for you. Beautiful and rewarding view at the top! It’s a quick hike up enchanted rock (took about 30 minutes). Bathrooms were closed when we went so had to use the portable potty which wasn’t ideal. Other than that, no complaints!
A Truly Enchanted Wonder of the world. We were all Beyond words and speechless at the magnificent and awe inspiring beauty of this God given wonder of Texas. It feels almost spiritual the second you set eyes on this incredible Shangri-la that sits in the heart of Texas. If you want to have a life changing get away that will give your soul a spark of beauty and wonder, you will certainly find such an experience here. Highly recommend camping and star gazing at night on enchanted rock. You can see the Great Rift of our Galaxy the Milky Way. The view of the sky is so incredibly crisp that it feels almost as if you are among the stars in outer space itself. Also the park offers mountain climbing for the more adventurous thrill seekers out there. One of my favorite parts of the park is a beautiful stream that runs through the park that is beautifully complemented by blue bonnets and other beautiful wild flowers. Enchanted Rock is the full experience for the whole family and a life enhancing get away for all.
