#1 of 8 in Parks in Fredericksburg
Famous for its gigantic namesake rock formation, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area spans more than 647 hectares (1,600 acres) of desert. The pink granite dome rises nearly 130 m (425 ft) and covers 260 hectares (640 acres). According to archaeological evidence, human habitation in the area goes back more than 10,000 years. Explore the park's network of trails and admire the wealth of plant and animal species. An ascent of the dome will reward you with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Tribal legends and colonial history indicate the formation holds mystical powers--hence its name. If you're feeling adventurous, spend the day rock climbing, but check in at the headquarters first for route maps and climbing rules. • Climbed to the top of Enchanted Rock. A 425 foot vertical climb. Great area with views that are forever. Definitely creates a memory. Would recommend this to anyone capable of walking.  more »
  • Beautiful place but they didn't tell me loop trail was closed so 3.5 miles in, I got diverted to a different trail than I was planning on taking which was the echo canyon. I ended up having to rock cl...  more »
  • Good visitor centre and rest rooms, ample parking. Well signposted, some of the trails were partially closed due to the storms the previous week but they were working on them. We hiked to the top, nic...  more »

  • We went during August 2018. It was beautiful. Very hot, but it was cloudy with rainstorms on the horizon. The humidity wasn’t bad despite the rain. The trails did not close since the rain never hit the park. We camped at site 23 and it was really cute! Tree-lined, cozy and semi-private. The tent pads are HARD though and we didn’t bring a hammer for the stakes. So we just used 3 large rocks to hold down the tent. Water is available and showers which are clean and bathrooms with many stalls. The campgrounds closest to the rock have a trail to lead you up to the main trails! Most of the trails have good markers but you’re really able to make your own trail at some points. I brought hiking boots and tennis shoes and I used both. There are some awesome things to do here. I would recommend arriving early as soon as they open or arrive late to camp and hike early the next morning! The sunset and sunrise were both magnificent. It costs $7 each to get into the park without a state parks pass!
  • We loved it! 6 and 12 year old climbed to the top with ease. Needed a few breaks but we all did it. Other hikers said it gets very hot in the summer. Bring plenty of water. We had a water back pack and that was easy to carry. It has a bathroom and water fountain to fill up just before you climb. No shade on the way up so if it it a hot day you will bake. Wear good shoes and comfy clothes.
  • beautiful and unique you will never see anything like it!! DOG FRIENDLY!!!! however pets cant go onto the actual rock because it gets too hot for paw pads but they can stay on the trails around the rock which are prettier anyway! i love this place. but watch out for rattlesnakes i have seen them there. and porcupines! both which have been known to mess with dogs here more than humans.
  • MUST DO! I’ve grown up in Texas and FINALLY made this trip. I took the family and everyone enjoyed it. The summit hike is short (
  • Thus place is gorgeous!! The centrally located restrooms are well maintained. Everything is clean. I saw zero trash on the ground while there. The climb up the rock is challenging. However the view from the top is awe inspiring. I'd recommend for the outdoorsy. If you're apprehensive about the level of difficulty of the climb, try one of the easier rated hikes.
