Freeport Historical Society (FHS), a 501(c)3 non-profit, celebrated its’ 40th year of incorporation in 2009. Since 1969, Freeporters and area residents have volunteered their time as Trustees and Officers, Committee Leaders and members, and as volunteers. A quick calculation indicates that over three hundred people have contributed to this non-profit since its inception. That number is probably very low. And many have volunteered over a number of years.

Had a lovely stop at the historical society. There were really neat artifacts that helped tell the story of the area. There's a captains log, as well as old swords. I must say, the best part about this place is the staff. They were so friendly, and more than happy to tell us about the history of the area. They also gave us pointers on where to look out for different pieces of history on the rest of our trip. Also, this place is right next to a donut shop, so it really makes a great family visit.
