It is part of the New Orleans - Metairie - Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. Garyville has the distinction of being the location of the most-recently-built oil refinery in the United States; it was established in 1976 by Marathon Petroleum Company.GeographyGaryville is located at .According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 22.4sqmi, of which, 20.9sqmi of it is land and 1.4sqmi of it is water.
