Little Big Econ State Forest, Geneva

#241 of 276 in Nature in Florida
The Little Big Econ State Forest is a state forest in the U.S. state of Florida. The 5048acre forest is located in Central Florida, east of the downtown Oviedo, on Florida Country Road 426 with forest office on Snow Hill Road in Geneva, Florida. The Kilbee Tract is a smaller non-contiguous section of the park located east of the main forest, along Saint Johns River, the longest river in the state.
The forest's most notable feature is the Econlockhatchee River, an Outstanding Florida Water, that winds east-to-west inside the forest. The protected area of Florida is open for picnicking, bird watching, fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback and mountain bike riding.
The old Flagler Railroad System used to traverse the central part of the forest. What was the old railway is now called the Flagler Trail in the park. Remains of old trestle pilings can still be seen on the river. The Florida National Scenic Trail also passes through east-west length of the park.
The name Little Big Econ State Forest comes from combining the names of the Little Econlockhatchee River and the larger Econlockhatchee River, which flow through the forest property.

  • Went with my dog to do a small hike, it was very nice with lots of vegetation. It was wet and muddy in some parts as it rained the week before. But we had lots of fun. My dog was completely muddy at the end but she was super happy. Place is kept really clean.
  • One of my favorite parks in all of Orlando. I bring my dog and he loves the trails especially the orange trail. It’s deep in Oviedo but still one of my absolute favorite places. Just make sure to bring some bug spray and an extra water with you!
