  • We had the pleasure of touring many of the plantations within an hour of Charleston. Although all were unique in their own right, Hampton Plantation was for us the most intriguing and apparently most authentic. Ranger Mike is a gift to the South Carolina State Park system. He led our tour and I’m sure it would not have been the same without his knowledge of the plantation, his demeanor and storytelling style. One Caveat: The bugs on the grounds are supernatural…..or for all I know they are genetically enhanced. Either way, I believe they eat bug spray. Try to hit it right when they are not as ravenous. Pick the wrong day….well…. you’ll find out.
  • Visited February 22 so there were no bugs. I was impressed how much of this was original. The cost was ten bucks per person. Ranger Mike gave a great tour and was very knowledgeable. Don’t miss this one. Grounds were in great shape. Many trails to walk on.
