Portage Glacier is NOT visible from the visitors center anymore. Due to global warming and the retreat of Portage Glacier (like almost every other glacier in Alaska) it has not been visible since maybe 2008 or so. Its a nice place to enjoy a beautiful valley.
Was in the Kenai area for salmon fishing and on the return trip to Anchorage we stopped through. Best part of the trip, if you ask me. A lot of great information and even better views of the glacier(s). Hope to make it back this way some day with my family.
