Create an itinerary including St.Mary Falls
Cascading over three separate tiers and dropping into emerald pools, St.Mary Falls remains a popular hiking destination between Baring Falls and more spectacular Virginia Falls. The flat rocks by the falls are perfect to take photos from or even bring a picnic. A wooden footbridge spanning across the narrow gorge offers a good spot to enjoy the cool breeze on a hot summer day. Keep an eye open for dippers foraging on the rocks and below the water surface. A well-traveled path to the falls mostly leads through a dense evergreen forest, but several openings along the way allow good views of the mountains. Note that parking can be difficult to find during the summer season; the alternative is to take a shuttle. • Nice hike down to the falls. I recommend a late day hike for better pictures of the beautiful stream and trees on the way out. Lots of berries along the trail that are getting ripe, I suspect bears will love these but we saw only squirrels begging at the bridge, we left them scorned.
  • Fun hike to this waterfall with nonstop views due to the forest fire. Fairly easy hike with not much elevation gain. You can continue onto Virginia falls on the same trail and I recommend that you do. Great family hike.
