Eastern Point Light is an historic lighthouse on Cape Ann, in northeastern Massachusetts.
The lighthouse was originally planned in 1829 and was erected by 1832 on the east side of the Gloucester Harbor entrance. It was first lit on January 1, 1832. The tower was rebuilt in 1848 and again in 1890. The third and current conical brick tower stands tall. The lighthouse has an attached two-story keeper's quarters, built in 1879. The actual light is above Mean High Water. Its white light is visible for.
In 1880, the lighthouse was occupied by American landscape painter Winslow Homer. It was automated by September 1985 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The lighthouse is currently operated by the United States Coast Guard and is closed to the public.
A distinctive rock formation known as Mother Ann is located along the shore near the lighthouse.

  • We had a hard time trying to get here, as the signs said private drive, but we finally figured out that we can drive down that road as it is the only way to the light house. We parked in a small parki...  more »
  • Walk out to the end of the breakwater. Its worth it. And when driving in, ignore the signs that say this is a private road. There are a couple of tourist spots open to the public, including this.  more »

  • Was fortunate to watch a full moon rise from this jetty. It was good. The views are very much like being out in a boat on the open water. To the east, open water. To the north, west and south, Cape Ann and the North Shore. The jetty is very popular with fisherman as well. There is often a strong tidal current running along the ocean side. Worth the trip!
  • I enjoyed going. I got an amazing shot of the lighthouse. Roads do say private but I just kept on driving. It’s also a wildlife sanctuary
