Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a United States national recreation area in Kentucky and Tennessee between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. It was designated as a national recreation area in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy.

Originally managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which constructed dams to create the two lakes in this area, the recreation area was later transferred to the administration of the United States Forest Service. In 1991, it was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. President Donald Trump's administration withdrew it from the program as of June 2017.

  • Very large place. Visitor center hours are limited from 9-5 so keep that in mind if you need visiting info (they have it all there). Beautiful rivers and lakes, camping, lodging, boating, jet skis, paddle boats, nature, wildlife, swimming, golf, off road trails, fishing, hiking and more. Great place to R&R with my sweetie. The $5 Elk and Bison Prairie was nice. You’re away from it all but there are things to keep you occupied and a great place to get some exercise!! We lodged at one of the state parks while there and it included activities, as well. If you love nature, water activities, hiking/trails, off-roaring, golf, camping or just need to get away - this is a super place to visit.
  • The visitor center has a lot to offer. With the Planetarium there also it's a fun place to go. They have a lot to look at and read. You'll learn all about the area and how it came to be. All kinds.of souvenirs and a playground for the kids.
