The West was won largely in thanks to railroads, and Colorado Railroad Museum will tell you all about Colorado's role in the process. Walk through the 6 ha (15 acre) rail yard, where a G-scale garden railway and more than 100 narrow- and standard-gauge steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, and a HO model railroad sit. Next, head to the restored roundhouse to see how a Colorado railroad workshop looked in the late 19th century. The depot museum features an 1880s architectural style and houses more than 1,000 artifacts and displays that show various styles of mountain railroads. Wrap up your visit in the "general store," which offers various train-themed gifts. • Good start to building a wonderful museum. The working round table is neat to watch. Many of the things I wanted to see were closed for a private party. I expected to see all the trains instead of those not being used by party groups. This should have been made known when I bought the tickets.
  • Okay for a couple of hours. Unfortunately our visit this time was disappointing. Many of the exhibit trains outside were closed. The playroom that was in the basement of the main building is now gone. The riding train was not running. We were looking forward to having the kids enjoy the open train ride. The miniature train area had only 1 train running on a smaller interior track. There was one exterior railroad car that had toy trains for the play by the smaller kids. The covered picnic area is very good. Great for families to bring a picnic lunch. It is covered so sun and rain are not a problem. Parking is free and right in front.
