Colorado School of Mines is an elite public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. Since its founding in 1874, it has become one the few institutions in the world having broad expertise in resource exploration, extraction, production and utilization. Its rigorous curriculum and research programs emphasize responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources. As the world faces a crisis in balancing resource availability with environmental protection, Mines is engineering the way.

  • Hands down my favorite museum. The quality of the specimens is superior to what you find in other, larger museums. Use the QR codes placed around to access more information about the exhibits. Don't miss the moon rock down in the basement. Keep an eye out for special exhibits because they are always spectacular! Side note, I was the first person to get married there because I love it so much and my husband and I are both geologists.
  • My 5 year old is very interested in rocks and minerals right now and has been begging to go to the "rock museum." The students working were very kind and helpful, and we really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. It's free to get in, just pay for parking. We really enjoyed it!
