  • Friends had mentioned the beauty of the bluebonnets in their state so I decided to Google where I could see them near me. Lo and behold, I came upon the Riverbend Park in Fairfax. What a fantastic.....  more »
  • Riverbend is a wonderful park, just up from Great Falls. Park and walk the 1.5 miles to Great Falls. Easy access to the river here too if you want to take a canoe/kayak out. Clean toilets and a small....  more »
  • Visited for the annual native American festival which is always worth attending. Kids get to shoot arrows, make everything from blow darts to stone drills to fire, learn lots of ancient technology, see some of the traditional dances and of course get Kaylee corn which makes it a great day no matter what else you do. Then we took a walk in the woods of the park along the river, found paw paw trees (like a banana looking custard in a little mango wrapper, what a wonderful native plant) and generally had a lovely time. They have canoe rentals for the water, a nice building with nature stuff to learn, and many great events when the festival isn't around. They're also run by nice people, which helps, I haven't felt shy to talk to or ask them about anything. Even the drive in, on the curvy dappled back roads can be lovely. Probably a lot more to learn about the place than I've seen, but I like the little I know!
  • Man talk about a place to avoid Great Falls traffic. The trail mostly followed the Potomac and stayed in the shade. It connects to hear Great Falls. Poison ivy was abundant so staying on the trail was important. There were a good number of dogs but all were on a leash. Hikers were nice and the family had a pleasant time. I'd highly recommend for those looking for a day hike
