One of the four national parks in Colorado. We drive by and we're able to see the funds from the visitor center. You need to park and walk to the dunes which we didn't do. We could see people sliding down the dunes using sleds that you could rent from the visitor center. Looked like fun.

Visitor Center small and (annoyingly closes during noon hour) but staff was great and the ranger at the entrance personable and very helpful. Our small group had a glitch in meeting up after our time on the dunes and the rangers were wonderful at helping us reunite. There is plenty more to do than the dunes but we only had an afternoon available so we focused on the dunes and found them a challenge to climb but super interesting and a lot of fun. We’ll be back and plan for a couple days. Probably shouldn’t have to say this but best if you come prepared for wind, sand, sun, heat. Saw plenty of people hiking in socks, apparently without water and poorly equipped for wind. Doubtful they had as positive an experience as we did!
